Sweet Revenge is a little restaurant in the West Village that also has a delicious-looking case of cupcakes inside. We came after lunch time and it wasn’t busy at all, and the staff were extremely accommodating and friendly. They opened the door for us and helped us navigate once they saw that we had a stroller. They even offered to find us a seat where we could keep the stroller, but we took the cupcakes to go since we were saving them for the evening. Even though we didn’t eat there, we noticed that they had a huge menu.
Their cupcakes showed up on a few top ten lists, and their case had a Time Out showcasing a nice review:
They had 6 flavors on display the day we visited:
They all looked really unique and great, but we managed to narrow it down to 2 flavors. They all had a signature-looking dollop of frosting on top, and a filling of flavor inside. We chose the Sweet Revenge, since it’s their namesake, and the Dirty, since it’s dark chocolate truffle.
They had really cute to-go packaging that nicely kept the cupcakes and ensured they didn’t get messy or ugly. They had their own individual cups with lids. These held up during the walk home in the bottom of the stroller.
The Sweet Revenge (on the right below) is peanut butter cake, chocolate ganache filling and peanut butter frosting. The Dirty (left) is valrhona chocolate cake with dark chocolate truffle. Both cupcakes looked a lot better than they tasted. They were good, but forgettable. Missy enjoyed the dark chocolate one better, especially the frosting. Rob enjoyed them both equally, but wasn’t amazed.
We also got the Dirty which was Valrhona chocolate cake with dark chocolate truffle. Both cupcakes looked a lot better than they tasted which was disappointing. They were good, but forgettable. Missy enjoyed the dark chocolate one better, especially the frosting. Rob enjoyed them both equally, but wasn’t amazed.
Overall, we probably wouldn’t go out of our way to get these again since they were a bit pricey and didn’t live up to their appearance. But maybe we’d go back for the savory menu since the staff was great and the setting was cute.
